The Hibberd Lab at The Department of Plant Sciences, Cambridge

Currently our work focusses on understanding how the efficient C4 photosynthetic pathway works. In addition, we are generating increased genetic variation in domesticated rice, and screening for increased tolerance to stresses. By understanding the genetic basis of these complex traits we aim in the long term to contribute to improving crop productivity.

Projects

We study the evolution of C4 photosynthesis, the regulation of C4 gene expression, and the role of proteins used in the C4 pathway. Our research takes multidisciplinary approaches using both model and wild C4 and C3 species.
